RAPID CITY, S.D. — Midwest Honor Flight is an organization that provides veterans of WWII, Korea and Vietnam with an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C.

They fly veterans to our nation’s capital free of charge to visit the memorials and monuments built to honor their service and sacrifice.

The organization is dependent on donations, so the Culver’s Regional Day of Giving is important to get the almost 800 veterans on the waiting list to go to D.C.

They serve veterans from northwest Iowa, South Dakota, and southwest Minnesota.

Jim Bussell, who serves on the Midwest Honor Flight Board of Directors says, “And we take them to visit the memorials and monuments that are built in honor of their service and bring them back and give them – give them a thank you that quite frankly some of them never got, especially the veterans of Korea and Vietnam.”

The organization takes multiple flights a year, called One Final Tour with Honor.

Bussell says, “Our goal right now is to do as many flights as we can as soon as it is safe to do so and in order to make those flights happen, we need to secure that funding. It costs about $750, in that neighborhood, for a veteran to fly.”

Bussell also notes the importance of donations to secure funding to keep the program going.

Participants of the give back day can head to any participating Culvers Restaurants (three locations in Rapid City), and 10% of the proceeds from the day goes to Midwest Honor Flight.

A representative of the organization will be on hand at each Rapid City Culver’s location from 5 – 8pm to answer any questions. They will also have applications on hand to veterans interested in going as well as guardians who want to travel with the veterans.

Those who can not go to Culvers Tuesday can head to their website to donate here.
