RAPID CITY, S.D. — What was once the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center, is now The Monument. The name change comes with a partnership between the Civic Center and Monument Health and of course, a new building: The Summit Arena. Officials say the new building has twice the space for sporting events, concerts and more.

However, to many involved with the monument, this means more than just a new building and new events.

“With the new venue here, we had to think differently and how we’re going to operate and how we’re going to do things and so this signifies much more than just a name change to us, it’s a major culture change,” said Craig Baltzer, the Executive Director of The Monument.

Baltzer says that some re-branding elements are still in the works, but says there’s excitement brewing in the partnership. Categories:
