RAPID CITY, S.D. — Representative Dusty Johnson was at Memorial Park on Saturday at the Black Hills Veterans Memorial to recognize Vietnam or Vietnam era veterans.

It’s the second year Rep. Johnson and his staff have held the commemorative pinning ceremony. According to Johnson – they’ve honored more than 200 Vietnam veterans in a couple dozen communities in South Dakota.

He says that most veterans are too modest to share their service or receive any recognition and that it’s important for family members to step up and submit their veteran’s names.

“So often it’s family members that will nominate people for this special designation. And we love that sometimes the veterans don’t want all the attention, but it’s important that their family members and their friends let us know so that we can tell them ‘Thank you’,” Johnson said.
