CUSTER, S.D. — The Black Hills Playhouse begins it’s season this Friday, June 18, and will debut an outdoor theater called “The New Frontier Theatre.”
Three musicals will be performed this summer, including ‘The Marvelous Wonderettes,’ ‘I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change,’ and ‘Atler Boyz.’
Dan Workman, Black Hills Playhouse Artistic Director, says, “When we were looking at tracking our outdoor theater, I said alright I need to pick shows that will fit in that venue that will be more conducive to that environment, so I went back and re-looked at some of the shows and I started to do a lot more re-familiarizing myself with some of these small cast musicals that are out there.”
Workman notes that parking is different this year. Guests are invited to laugh under the stars in the new outdoor theater.
Workman says,”So we started a plan, well if this is long lasting, how are we going to be able to survive as a theater company so we started planning and we thought well lets do something outside – we can mitigate – the effects we can do that, we can maybe do some social distancing – we can do whatever the guidelines are. I think it’s going to be a delightful place for people to come and watch the plays.”
