UPDATE April 24, 3:45 p.m. - Custer County Sheriff's office announced on Wednesday that Johnna Bense has been found deceased. Bense had been missing since March 22, 2024.
Bense's vehicle was found slightly before she was in rural Fall River County.
Custer County Sheriff's Office thanked all of the agencies that assisted in the search for Johnna.
CUSTER COUNTY, S.D. — The Custer County Sheriff's Office is seeking information on the whereabouts of Johnna Bense, who has been missing since March 22, 2024.
Bense, 59 years old, was last seen leaving her apartment on foot. She is described as 5 feet 1 inch tall, weighing 180 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair. She may be using a cane for mobility.
At the time of her disappearance, Bense was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with mint green sleeves and blue pants. She is believed to have left without her glasses, hearing aids, and medication. Bense's hair is currently gray and cropped very short, and she also goes by the nickname "JoJo".
